Illmann, Erik ; Romancov, Michael (advisor) ; Kofroň, Jan (referee)
REASONS FOR RELOCATING CAPITAL CITIES AND THEIR IMPLICATIONS Bachelor Thesis Erik Illmann Abstract This bachelor thesis explores the process of capital city relocation. Its aim is to create a typology of reasons, why capital cities move. In the first part the thesis describes capital cities from a theoretical viewpoint and introduces theories relevant to their relocations - the growth centre (pole) theory, the theory of nation-building, and a theory determining the relationship between capital cities, distance, and conflict. In the second part it explores the cases of fifteen relocations of capital cities since the year 1900 and two currently considered relocations. Based on these case studies I arrive at the conclusion that there are five reasons why capital cities move: 1. Nation-building purposes, 2. Spread of regional development, 3. Issues of the capital city, 4. To mitigate the threat of insurrection, and 5. The decision of the leader.
Electoral Geography of Post-communist Countries
Sokol, Petr ; Hnízdo, Bořivoj (advisor) ; Brunclík, Miloš (referee) ; Kouba, Karel (referee)
The thesis "Electoral Geography of Postcommunist Countries in Central and Eastern Europe" deals with the topic of electoral geography, which is a part of the political geography. The basic hypothesis of the paper is based on opinion that the postcommunist countries experienced the twenty years of development in the postcommunist period which made their electoral geography very similar to one in Western Europe. This hypothesis is proved by three different areas of electoral geography. The first part is composed by the analysis of the electoral geography of the founding elections in the 17 postcommunist countries (including the GDR). In the paper is proposed after the research of all 17 countries the categorization of founding elections on the basis of electoral geography. The second part examines the electoral geography of capitals. The research is focused on the size of the lectorate in the capital compare to the whole country, on the diverhgence of electoral results in the capital and in the whole state and on strength of the party families in capitals. Folowing these three areas is proposed the catehorisation of the postcommunist capitals into the five groups. The third part deals with variability of the electoral results inside the state.
Population development in the districts of Prague between 2001 and 2013
Křenková, Lenka ; Šídlo, Luděk (advisor) ; Kraus, Jaroslav (referee)
The main goal of this study is to analyse population development in Prague districts in between 2001 and 2013. Within this frame the processes of mortality, fertility, migration and population aging are also examined. As a part of this study, a sample survey on the policies of districts regarding issues with demographic structure was made. The results prove, that life expectancy at birth generally rose in Prague, with differences from district to district. It also rose faster for the population of men. The total fertility rate also grew, as well as the mean age of mothers giving birth. The center of the city lost some of its population from migration, mainly due to migration to the outer districts. Whereas, districts on the outskirts saw an increase in migration. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
